Une famille a du mal à parler de sentiments, d'amour ou d'intimité. L'entreprise familiale exige toute leur attention : location, vente et réparation d'excavatrices. Tout le monde doit mettre la main à la pâte. Lorsque la fille est victime d'un accident mortel, la famille cesse de fonctionner. Le fils préfère partir aux États-Unis plutôt que de reprendre l'entreprise. Le père se prend d'affection pour le nouveau chef de choeur et la mère se retrouve soudain seule.
