SIRI HUSTVEDT - DANCE AROUND THE SELF
by Sabine Lidl
Today, at over 60 years of age, writer Siri Hustvedt says she is finally old enough to give her anger at the discrimination against women in science, psychoanalysis and art the place it deserves. As a woman, she believes, one must not allow oneself to be dissuaded from asking the right questions in male-dominated domains. Fear and shame are the greatest enemies in this endeavour.
«The beautiful face of a young woman acts as an obstacle to her seriousness», writes Siri Hustvedt in her 2019 novel «Memories of the Future».
«Siri - Dance Around the Self» aims to portray a woman who has dedicated her life and work to exploring «femininity» in all its facets and variations. Accordingly, the film starts from the personal and ends with the universal: the eternal battle of the sexes - and the individual position that each person must work out for themselves.
