THE VANISHING OF BRUNO BREGUET
 by Olmo Cerri
In June 1970, Bruno Bréguet, a barely twenty-year-old high school student, is arrested in Israel while trying to smuggle explosives into the country for the Palestinian resistance. He is sentenced to seven years in prison. During his imprisonment he becomes radicalised and joins the group around the terrorist Carlos after his release. Bréguet devotes himself entirely to the search for his personal vision of social justice. He is involved in several attacks and experiences two great love stories at the same time. In 1995, he mysteriously disappears from a ferry travelling from Italy to Greece. After an initial media hype, Bréguet seems to be forgotten as he disappears from public discussion. Many unanswered questions remain.
Through encounters with Bréguet's former Ticino companions, comrades and friends, his case is reconstructed. The memories of their turbulent paint a picture of a generation that tried everything in their power to make the world a fairer place. But beyond that, it is also a critical examination of the meaning of civil disobedience and militant resistance.
